My full length album "Mockingbird" is a long time coming. Generally performing under my project moniker PIPES, I decided to go by my birth name because, as a solo Singer/Songwriter I was ready to take my music into a more personal space. This album, full of dark musings and contemplative desires, pulls from many of my influences such as PJ Harvey, Cassandra Wilson, Chris Cornell, John Lee Hooker, Alice in Chains, Morphine and Monique Ortiz
When I was 10 years old I began playing the violin. When I was 17 my mother bought me my first guitar and I began to learn the songs of the bands I loved at the time, a few being Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and Sound Garden. As I began to listen to other genres like blues and jazz my musical palette matured and I began to write my own songs. The first time I played in front of anyone was during a talent show my senior year of high school. When I had my first show as a local musician during my junior year of college at Carnegie Mellon University, I was hooked. I wanted people to hear my words.
Though I play mostly in the Chicagoland area I am really hoping to become a singer-songwriter that creates music for movies and television. If you like what you hear and are interested in me creating a song or composition for your movie or TV series you can contact me via “booking.” I am a big fan of musical scores and soundtracks and it’s a live-long dream to have my music featured in one. Some of my favorite movies/ shows because of their soundtracks are Lovecraft Country, Westworld, True Detective, The Crow, Singles, Romeo and Juliet, Joker and The Walking Dead.
Thank you for listening and enjoy!
" It would be simple to put Cheryl Lynn Tomblin’s music and her debut album “Mockingbird” into the singer/songwriter category, but don’t take that easy step. The album does contain well-written songs and nice production, but it’s Cheryl’s vocals, the baritone sax and guitar flourishes that makes these songs come alive. “Mockingbird” is an interesting and enjoyable journey powered by Cheryl’s occasionally dark tales. Standouts on the album include Choir Boy Sins (Good As Dead), Weight In Gold, Jelly Roll, and the title cut with its wonderful sultry vocals and bluesy guitar."
